Traveling the furthest of any athlete in attendance for the weekend event, David Sills (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) put on quite a display with his arm. According to DeBartolo Sports University coach Joe Dickinson, “this weekend was the best I’ve ever seen David Sills throw the football.” Driving up from the desert, Bradley Alexander II (Las Vegas, Nev./Goynes Elementary) demonstrated superb escapability in the pocket and exceptionally quick feet. Ricky Town (Walnut Creek, Calif.) displayed an accurate arm, sound mechanics, and noticeable improvement from the Ambassador College Academy.
Other youth quarterbacks of note:
Kelly Hilinski – As only a 7th grader, Hilinski is already 6’3 and growing! He is making tremendous progress in his development as a quarterback.
Jack Lowary – Nicknamed “Lightning Jack” by Coach Anton Clarkson, a strong case can be made for Lowary having the strongest arm of any youth quarterback at the Academy.
Eli Snyder – His competitiveness throughout each drill allowed Snyder to stand out from all others in his group.
A highlight of the Occidental College Academy was Saturday’s group consisting of Matt Barkley (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei), Nate Montana (Concord, Calif./De La Salle), and Nick Montana (Concord, Calif./De La Salle). The day marked the first appearance at an Academy for the younger Montana (Nick) as he prepares to compete for the starting quarterback position at perennial powerhouse De La Salle. The trio was unavailable to attend Sunday’s workout.
One of the top field generals at the Academy was Skyler Titus (Nappanee, Ind./Northwood). At 6’3 205 lbs., Titus has the big body college recruiters covet while also exhibiting an incredibly live arm. An attribute that set Titus apart from most quarterbacks in attendance was his ability to throw on the run. While rolling out of the pocket he exhibited tremendous technique, accuracy, and arm strength.
In attendance for Sunday’s workout was Trevor Gretzky (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian). Gretzky, a rising sophomore, is getting better with every single workout. He has really benefited from attending the Steve Clarkson’s Quarterback Academy, placing him in strong contention for the starting quarterback job on Oaks Christians JV team. Speaking of continued improvement, add Greg Caruso’s (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood Prep) name to the list. Steve Clarkson says that “Caruso is the most improved quarterback from last year to this year. His throwing motion becomes more fluid in every workout.”
Other standout performers included Sean Berman (North Hollywood, Calif./Harvard Westlake), Connor Preston (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter), Ryan Kasdorf (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame), and Ryan Orozco (Orange, Calif./Orange Lutheran). Berman is having a terrific off-season and is really finding his groove at quarterback. Since first seeing him at Ambassador College three weeks ago, Preston has made giant strides in his development. Kasdorf and Orozco are gunslingers in their own right with incredibly powerful arms.
Standby and continue checking the website for a new release of Steve Clarkson Quarterback Academy dates. DeBartolo Sports University will now begin gearing up for the Steve Clarkson Super 7 Quarterback Retreat on May 22-25 in Santa Barbara, California.
