Torn between two programs vying for his services at quarterback, Hill announced his intention to play college football for the Stanford Cardinal.

“There are many factors that that go into your decision of which University you decide to play your college football,” admits Hill. “A big one for me with Stanford was the education I would receive. Stanford’s academics are top notch and second to none. Obtaining that type of education along with the opportunity to play BCS football, I don’t know of any other program who can offer that.”

Under the direction of second-year Head Coach, Jim Harbaugh, the Cardinal appear to be a Pac-10 program on the upswing. After upset wins over USC and Cal in 2007, he appears to be taking Stanford in a positive direction. Hill also recognizes the 15-year NFL veteran as a great mentor for him at quarterback.

“Coach Harbaugh brings so much enthusiasm towards the game of football,” states Hill. “He knows the ins and outs of playing quarterback and what it takes to be successful at the college level and the NFL. I’m extremely excited to be able to be coached and have the opportunity to play for someone with those credentials.”

Also extending scholarship offers to Hill were Arizona, Boise State, BYU, Utah and Washington State. However, Stanford wasn’t alone at the top of the Idaho native’s list. Hill, a member of the LDS church, also put heavy consideration into joining the Cougars of BYU.

“Being a Mormon is what put BYU ahead of all the other schools that I had collected offers from,” admits Hill. “Then with Stanford, it was the education. Ultimately, the deciding factor for me was the academics. I loved the coaching staffs at both BYU and Stanford. The two schools had so much in common and that’s why it was easy for me to narrow my decision down. The ultimate factor in the decision was the chance to graduate from Stanford with an Ivy League education.”

Still intending to fulfill his commitment to the Mormon Church and serve his mission; Hill will not arrive at Stanford until the 2011 football season. Though taking a two year absence from the football could potentially stunt his progression as a quarterback, the Pocatello native isn’t worried.

“Being away from football for two years will be tough, but I will have the opportunity to grow and mature in my faith,” states Hill. “When I come back, I might redshirt for a year just to get back in the swing of things. Everything will be alright. At first it might be tough to get my legs back underneath me, but there are plenty of athletes who have done it before so I don’t know why I wouldn’t be able to.”

Despite exhibiting much excitement over his announcement, in no way does Hill seem inclined to shut his recruiting process down just yet.

“I committed to Stanford because I liked what they had to offer, but at the same time you only go through the recruiting process once,” acknowledges Hill. “With that being said, if someone else were to come along, I’m going to listen to what they have to say. But as of right now my plan is to definitely remain a Stanford Cardinal.”

In 2007, Hill was a 5A All-Idaho Second Team as a junior. He also achieved All-Area & All-Region Player of the Year honors. His brother, Jordan, plays defensive end at Arizona State University.
