DSU: What would you classify as your strengths at the quarterback position?
TB: I am overall a polished quarterback. I can throw the ball as well as tuck it and run. Throwing the ball is my main strength. I also like to assume the leadership position and feel like I can lead my team to victory.
DSU: Who has been your role model or anyone who has strongly influenced your playing career?
TB: My role model has been my dad. He has always supported anything that I have wanted to do. He has made many decisions that have given me the chance to succeed. Also, he pushes me to excel at everything I do. He has made me aware of the fact that the window of opportunity is small for me and I need to do all that I can to be the best quarterback at my high school.
DSU: Do you have any pre-game rituals?
TB: One superstition that I have picked up is I can’t step on the goal line before a game. Also, I can’t step onto the field before I am mentally ready.
DSU: Who are your three favorite NFL quarterbacks?
TB: Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady. Brett is a true warrior and he can take a big hit and get right back up. Peyton is a student of the game and he can pick apart any defense. Tom is a big armed quarterback that can make any throw look easy.
DSU: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
TB: I enjoy watching TV on my spare time. I am usually pretty busy and always doing something so I don’t get much free time.
DSU: What is your latest recruiting update?
TB: I have had some contact with BYU but that is about it. After my breakout season this fall I plan to be on the radar for multiple Division I programs. I am one of those quarterbacks that is going to suddenly come out of nowhere and surprise a lot of people.
DSU: Do you have a list of favorite colleges?
TB: If I had to number them 1-5 it would look like this: UCLA, BYU, Stanford, Oregon, and USC.
Glendale Academy Diary:
Overall, today was a great session. It was a very competitive environment and I feel like I performed well. It was a good experience to be able to learn alongside other high caliber quarterbacks. It was also interesting to have all the media around us. I think that really tested our focus and ability to perform under pressure. The coaching staff at Steve Clarkson’s QB Academy’s is great! They are all very experienced in their area of coaching have much insight that not many coaches possess. I learn something new every time I meet with the coaches. They are always willing to point out the little things that you’re doing wrong to make you a better quarterback. One point that Coach Gasca emphasized during the classroom session didn’t particularly focus on being a quarterback, but still very much applied. He stressed the importance of being all you can be, no matter what you do. The highlight of my day was getting to know some of the other quarterbacks my age. I talked to Jake Heaps and he is a really nice guy. It was also a great learning experience because I got to watch the other quarterbacks recognize what they did right so I could apply it to myself. My favorite drill of the academy was the footwork drill with Coach Hannah. It is always a challenging station and it really shows your mental focus and who can finish. It tests your work ethic and it is also great for your foot quickness and speed. I always have to challenge myself and push myself during these drills. I feel that overall today was a good day for me. I worked hard the whole day and even though some of my throws weren’t as good as I would have liked I maintained my composure. I am only improving right now and I am looking forward to tomorrow’s session. This is a program that I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending to another quarterback. What goes on here is so unique. You find yourself in a position where you are only surrounded by the best. The coaches are great and they take the time to point out your individual mistakes so you can get better.
