DSU: What would you classify as your strengths at the quarterback position?
AN: My understanding of the game and being able to run and pass (opposed to just being able to pass). I also feel that I am very coachable and a good listener.
DSU: Who has been your role model or anyone who has strongly influenced your playing career?
AN: My old football coach Pete Gordon. He is the reason I kept on playing football. Coach Gordon really made the game fun for me.
DSU: Do you have any pre-game rituals?
AN: Honestly, the two consistent things I do before a game are pray and go to the bathroom.
DSU: Who are your three favorite NFL quarterbacks?
AN: Steve Young, Tom Brady, and Joe Montana.
DSU: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
AN: I am very competitive so I love playing any sport (mainly basketball) and I also spend a lot of my time drawing up plays. I even have my own playbook that I created.
DSU: Do you have a list of favorite colleges?
AN: My top choices of where I’d like to play are TCU, Cal Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA, and USC.
Ambassador College Diary:
Today we had a very tough workout (heat played a part in that). I truly did feel lik I learned more that day that I had in other previous camps. I can rally tell a difference in my game and in all the other little things that make good quarterbacks great ones. The coaching staff is the best around and they do a great job with making you feel like you are a part of a family as opposed to just being another athlete. Coach Klein helped me out a lot with my release point and how to make throwing easy. Coach Dickinson is a genius in the film room and I’m always learning something new in the classroom. I also had a blast learning about getting depth on the “throw on the run” station with Coach Kaub. The highlight of my day was spending some one-on-one time with Joe Montana before lunch. I really enjoyed listening to him talk during his on-field demonstration. If I had to pick a favorite drill during the Academy I would say the speed and agility station because I feel like one of my best attributes is my quickness. That station really tested my quickness and speed while also challenging me to stay poised. As for my self-evaluation, I felt as though I struggled a little bit in the first drill with Coach Gasca and Coach Anton Clarkson. After that I felt like I was in my usual groove and did a great job. This is a program I would definitely recommend to other quarterbacks because the training and the athletes are the best around. I’m looking forward to coming back out here for Day #2 so I can learn more from Coach Dickinson and doing better in Coach Gasca’s drill.
