Coach Canales has coached El Camino QB’s Lyle Moevao (Oregon State) Boo Jackson (Ohio). Kelly O’Brien, son of former New York Jets quarterback Ken O’Brien, is currently under Canales’ tutelage at El Camino and hopes to be the next in the long line of great Warrior quarterbacks. While serving as assistant wide receivers coach Canales also mentored wide receivers Kayne Farquarson (University of Miami), Verran Tucker (Cal-Berkeley) and Corey Surrency (Florida State Universtiy).
During camp season, Canales is a regular at the University of Southern California coaching quarterbacks. In 2007, the University of Miami called on his services to evaluate and coach the top quarterbacks at their prospect camp.
During the off-season, Canales privately trained Dominique Blackman (Washington) and Anthony Rodriguez (Chadron State College).
